Park Board grateful for attendance

Sunday, September 25, 2011

To the Editor:

The Brazil Parks and Recreation Board would like to thank all the businesses, organizations and individuals who helped and participated in the seventh Fishing Fun Day.

It was a beautiful day at Craig Park. The sun was shining, the water was clear and the fish were biting.

Five different species of fish were caught, including two 18-inch catfish. Families shared an enjoyable morning together. They ate hot dogs and popcorn, washing it down with Pepsi drinks. One hundred-and-nine gifts were given out to 92 kids, ages 12-under, which included 13 bikes and two iPods. One adult won a camera by random draw. And it was all free because of the generosity of this community.

Thank you to Dustin Lawrence-Lawrence Insurance Agency, Linda Ray Insurance Agency, Shawn Wheeler-Shelter Insurance Companies, Larry White Insurance agency, Coughanowr Insurance Agency, Inc., Ted Paris-Allstate Insurance Company, Rusty Quigley-Gasway Insurance Company, Dale Loughmiller-Allie Insurance Company, Mica Bonomo-Indiana Farm Bureau Insurance Company, John Howes-State Farm Insurance Agency, Mayor Ann Bradshaw and John and Allan Bradshaw, Noel and Donna Short, Brian and Connie Wyndham and Clerk/Treasurer Karen McQueen.

Also thanks to The Brazil Times, The Popcorn Festival, The Outpost-Duane Butt and John Lee, Pepsi Cola Refreshment Services and Bill Osborn, Kroger, Jack's Bait and Tackle -- Jack and Dee Elder, Clay County Sheriff's Department, Clay County Reserves, Brazil City Police Department, Brazil City Reserves, Brazil City Fire Department, Parks employees -- Bill Houck, John Day and Ed Holt.

A special thank you to Larry Clark and the Clark Family -- Kip, Yates and Robbyn and Dabren. Their knowledge and expertise about fishing and the environment was invaluable. Their willingness to share that knowledge with all the children was priceless.

Thank you to all the kids who came and participated in the program and to their parents and family members who took the time to bring them. Thank you.

The Brazil Parks and Recreation Board,

Ruthann Jeffries, Todd Brackman, Linda Messmer and Caroline McCullough
