Missionary pays a visit

Community Missionary Church missionary Phyllis Newby (right) and co-host Tammy Spurlock recently visited the church.

To the Editor:

"Rice for Haiti Children" missionary Phyllis Newby, whom Community Missionary Church has supported for many years, has returned once again after five years, telling us of the many updates, events and ongoing happenings in Haiti.

She brought along her co-host and escort, Tammy Spurlock, of the missions group "Hands to the Plow," located with offices in Sarasota, Fla.

Phyllis spoke for our Sunday school hour and both she and Tammy answered many questions about Haiti, the hurricane and the flooding so close together these past many months, in regard to the destruction, bad water, how they coped, etc.

She was thankful that our church was so helpful in the digging of a water well, which supplied clean water.

Phyllis and Tammy have traveled here before together some five years ago and enjoyed their time once again.

Phyllis was also able to attend our late pastor, William E. Brown's funeral in 2007.

They departed for their missionary headquarters in Anderson, Ind., and will return to their mission this month.

Meanwhile, Community Missionary Church is ever collecting pop cans for Haiti and tables for the Ronald McDonald House in Indianapolis.
