To the Editor:

On Wednesday, June 27, we took two of our grandchildren to enjoy the annual Brazil Rotary Celebration at beautiful and spacious Forest Park.

Our grandchildren, ages 2 and 4, were very excited about going there to enjoy the carnival rides.

After getting their bracelets, they began riding all of the children's rides.

We started with the Merry-Go-Round, then on to the dragon ride, the cars, the train, the boats and ended up at their favorite, the bounce house and slide.

I noticed that each of the carnival employees were courteous and friendly.

I got the feeling that they really enjoyed working with the carnival and providing this experience for our family.

Even the "hawkers," from the games of chance, were friendly. They didn't seem as taunting or pushy as usual.

Then, there was complete disaster. Our 4-year-old accidentally got a "bloody nose" while playing on the bouncy slide. She was wearing a red, white and blue outfit with the dominant color being white.

Due to the heat, her nose bled profusely. The young man supervising the bounce slide suggested we take her to the carnival manager's tent for assistance.

By the time we got there, the bleeding was beginning to subside. When carnival manager, Mr. Josh Macaroni, saw our distress, he and his staff immediately came to our assistance. They provided a cold compress, which stopped the bleeding completely. Then damp cloths to clean and cool her off.

He offered to get her an ice cold drink or an ice cream cone. Then, he went above and beyond our expectations by instructing one of his team to bring her a clean T-shirt to cover her blood stained outfit and allowing her to enjoy the rest of the evening without being embarrassed about her appearance.

Believing she may not feel like continuing her evening, he offered to give us VIP passes to return the next day.

Mr. Macaroni said, "I would really like for her to have a fully enjoyable carnival experience."

On behalf of our family, I would like to thank Mr. Josh Macaroni and the Brazil Rotary for another fantastic July 4 Celebration. This experience has made me very proud of the Rotarians who volunteer so much of their time and energy so we can have this annual July 4 Celebration.

Being a former Rotarian, I know the difficulty the club has had since we lost the services of the Portamonts. I understand the Brazil Rotary has contracted this carnival to return again next year.

Now, our 4-year-old, as well as our whole family, can't wait until next year.

Bill McDonald,

Brazil
