Fireworks were welcome

To the Editor:

In response to the heartwarming letters concerning the free fireworks show, the people of the Rotary spend hours of their time trying to organize and figure out how to fund our 4th of July Celebration, including the fireworks show.

This year, the 4th of July was on a Wednesday, so to those of you that have a regular job, you would have had to work the day after the 4th on a Thursday.

To those of you complaining publicly about having to work the day after the fireworks show, this would have happened anyway had the fireworks been on the 4th as planned. To the person who thinks that "the organizers of this should be fined or jailed for their support of this arrangement," I could only imagine that you were joking, because no one is that ridiculous, since the organization in charge is totally based on helping the community and giving back to students and other local organizations.

Another individual asks, "Did City officials think of the children?", referring to the fact that the show was held at 9:30 p.m., on a school night.

I would like to think that they were thinking of the children, since they are the main reason to have fireworks in the first place.

I would also imagine that "our children's education" was not railroaded by the 20 minutes of fireworks that they were able to watch for free.

My son seems to be fine after watching them. At least there is no immediate damage or signs of his IQ declining.

Thanks to our Rotary and for all the time and work that you do with no appreciation. We could all take a page out of your book.
