Letter to the Editor

Gesture was very moving

To the Editor:

On Tuesday, Oct. 2, my elderly father and I were having brunch at the Sunrise Restaurant.

My father was wearing his new hat embroidered with the letters, "WWII Veteran," (which he is).

A gentleman at another table walked past us and said to my father, "Thank you for your service."

My dad was very pleased and acknowledged the comment.

We went on with our meal and after a few minutes, a waitress came over and told us that the gentleman had paid for my dad's meal.

We were so touched that tears sprang to both our eyes.

We don't know who this kind younger gentleman is, but I want to let him know his generosity moved us both very much.

My dad could not stop talking about how much that gesture meant to him and I know it is something that he will remember for the rest of his life.

Thank you, mister, for not only your acknowledgement of my dad's service, but also for bringing a smile and a wonderful memory to someone I love very much.

Your kindness means a great deal to both of us.
