Walking the walk for Breast Cancer

Sunday, March 2, 2008

To the Editor:

This year, we will be participating in a very special event called the Breast Cancer 3-Day.

We will walk 60 miles over the course of three days with thousands of other women and men. The net proceeds will support breast cancer research, education, screening and treatment through Susan G. Komen for the Cure and the National Philanthropic Trust Breast Cancer Fund.

Each of our team members have agreed to raise $2,200 in donations. So we decided to get started by getting the community involved and boy did they! I would like to thank the residents of Clay County for your donations to our Breast Cancer 3-Day fundraising efforts. On Saturday, my team and I were at Wal-Mart "tagging" like the kids do. I was so impressed with the efforts of Clay County to help out with our cause that I really don't know what to say other than thank you!

So far, my team, the BRA-ZIL BILLIES, have raised $650 to help end breast cancer. We still need to raise $3,750 to reach our fundraising goal.

If you didn't get a chance to help and would like to, please contact Amy Reynolds at 448-8843 or you may visit our website at http://08.the3day.org/site/TR/walk/ChicagoEvent?pg=team&fr_id=1160&team_id=24970.

One more way to get involved is to join us every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 6 p.m. in front of the Forest Park Pool for our training walks (three-five miles). The cost to walk will only be $1 and that $1 will help us fight breast cancer one step at a time.

According to Susan G. Komen for the Cure, approximately 200,000 American women will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year, and nearly 40,000 will die from the disease. That's why we are walking so far. To do something bold about breast cancer.

I hope that you'll share this incredible adventure with us -- by supporting us in our fundraising efforts.

Thank you once again for your generosity!

The BRA-ZIL BILLIES,

Amy Reynolds, Tiffany Foster,

Brazil
