Not feeling welcome

Sunday, June 22, 2008

To the Editor:

Dear Clay County and Owen County residents:

We are truly sorry for your losses over the past week. We drove down last Sunday to check on our property in Coal City and could see only a part of the devastation.

While our property and home were not damaged by the rain, someone chose to carry in a metal bar which they used to break into our garage. They rolled the burn barrel over and propped it up with the metal bar. They then climbed through the small window and stole our 2004 yellow Honda Foreman 450 ATV. They rode it off the property through our neighbor's trails. They also took one of our son's paint ball guns after shooting it around the garage.

If you see, notice your teen or someone else with a "new to them" ATV matching this description, please report it to the Owen County Sheriff's Department, attention Joe Pettijohn. We still have the key.

A few months ago, while my husband was eating in Clay City, someone decided they needed our trailer hitch more than we did and took it off our Ford Explorer.

Were these "visits" the welcome wagon?

Stephanie Johnson,

Carmel
