Reader issues public apology

To the Editor:

I would like to make a public apology to someone very important to me.

A little over three years ago, by unlikely chance, a recent rehab graduate got involved with a local girl with opposite views to say the least. A "good one" you could say.

A short time later, a child was conceived. This medical miracle was a less than 1 percent possibility.

A blind man could see the blessings handed to me. Slowly as the time slipped by, I lost myself and became consumed with "me."

Life was good. Everything, the rent, the lights, the water, phone, cable, it was all paid on time. The cabinets and refrigerator stayed full of food. My lunch and coffee every morning before work and dinner every night after. My clothes clean and folded. Our house so clean you could literally eat off the floor. She did all of this, not me.

Today, I am consumed by guilt. I took for granted all the things she did. I didn't say thank you enough, if at all. Nowadays, a woman with all these qualities is hard to find, especially here in Brazil.

There are no time machines to go back and say thank you. Instead, I would like to say, "I miss you and our son," but most important, "I am truly sorry."
