Letter to the Editor

Clay County Day Chairman thanks all

Sunday, February 1, 2009

To the Editor:

We want to thank the businesses and financial institutions of Clay County for their generosity on behalf of the recent Clay County Day in Bradenton, Fla.

First of all, we thank Riddell National Bank, Fifth Third Bank, Harris Bank, Terre Haute Savings Bank (Brazil branch), Remax Homes and Land, Emmert, GMAC Real Estate and Butts Auction and Realty for supplementing an unexpected cost attached to the 2009 luncheon.

Previously, the traditional luncheon held at the Holiday Inn Riverfront was never charged for use of the banquet room in addition to the food costs. But due to new rules and regulations placed by the new owners, Courtyard by Marriott Riverfront, this year's luncheon was charged a hefty flat fee of $500 for the rental. Because of the seven above-named benefactors, the room rental was paid in full. Clay County Day attendees paid only for their meal, gratuity and tax.

In addition, there were many door prizes enjoyed by the attendees. For this, we also give our gratitude to local merchants and groups countywide: Bob Burkle Chevrolet, Brazil Concert Band, Brazil Times, Butts-Pell Auction and Realty, Clay City News, Clay City Pottery, Edwards Jones/Toni Carter, Emmert Real Estate, Farm Bureau Insurance, Fifth Third Bank, First Financial Bank, Harris Bank, Mary Kay by Mary Lou Cox, Remax Homes/Land, Riddell National Bank, Shear Image Salon by Marcia and Rita, Terre Haute Savings Bank and York Chevrolet-Pontiac-Buick. These prizes and surprises made the day extra-fun for the lucky recipients.

Clay County has always been known for its generosity and these acts of kindness were no exception. Again thank you all for making this annual event so special.

Mary Jo Butts,

Clay County Day Chairman
