Despite loss, club going strong

Sunday, March 1, 2009

To the Editor:

To inform the Brazil Community and Clay County, the Brazil Kiwanis Club lost a very active and supportive member, Les Walden, but the club is alive and well.

Like many clubs, membership is a priority, but the Brazil club is rebuilding.

We have added new members and are gaining several more.

The annual K-Day Pancake and Sausage feast and Parade is scheduled for the fourth Saturday in September as usual and is in the planning stages.

Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world one child and one community at a time. Kiwanians working together are "Serving the Children of the World," empowering children to change the world.

Locally, Kiwanis supports Boy/Girl Scouts, 4-H, YMCA, Key Club, Builders Club, Riley Hospital for Children, scholarships and other requests or interests which are just a few of the reasons Brazil Kiwanis is determined to grow and to invest in our children.

Youth is our number one priority.

In our community, there is a treasure of resources and talents lying dormant, talents that can make a real difference.

Meetings are held twice a month, the first and third Thursdays, from 5:30-6:30 p.m., at the Coffee Cup. Join us, share your talents, be a mentor to our youth and make a difference in our community, our world -- our children, our future -- a "win-win" for all.

Any questions, you may call 812-877-2910 or 448-8352.
