Reader questions neighbor program

To the Editor:

I have a question.

What good is a neighborhood watch program when the police won't help you out?

I live in a trailer court and my neighbor is in the process of moving. Well, we have been keeping an eye over there for a few days now and have noticed several young teenagers breaking in and carrying several items off. Well, we called the police department and they informed us that if the people that own the property don't report it, they can't do anything about it.

What is the meaning of this? I thought that's what neighbors were for. To watch out for one another. And when you do, the police can do nothing about it?

I don't know what our city government has come to when a witness can't report a crime, but something needs to be done.
