Fishing Fun Day successful

Sunday, September 27, 2009

To the Editor:

The fifth Fishing Fun Day took place Saturday, Sept. 19, at Craig Park and had the biggest turnout yet.

Eighty-seven local youngsters, age 12-under, and their families, enjoyed a morning of fishing and eating hot dogs, popcorn and Pepsi. Each child received a special prize. And it was all free.

The Brazil City Parks and Recreation Board would like to thank everyone who donated their time, money or services for this event.

Thank you to: French Funeral Home, Moore Funeral Home, Popcorn Festival, Christmas in the Park, Avenue, Bill Osborn and Pepsi, Kroger, Hartman Mini-Mart and Brazil Walmart. Also thank you to the Brazil Fire Department, the Clay County Sheriff's Reserve Department, Bill Houck and the Brazil Parks Department and The Brazil Times.

A special thank you to L.T. Clark for his generous contribution and sharing his knowledge of fishing with the children and for his great enthusiasm. Without Larry, it would be hard for us to host this event.

The board would also like to thank all the citizens who donated money to the Park Non-Reverting Fund. That's where the money came from to buy the prizes, except the bicycles, which were donated by some of the above contributors. All donations are greatly appreciated.

Thank you all.

Brazil City Parks and Recreation Board,

Ruthann Jeffries, Carolyn McCullough, Todd Brackman and

Linda Messmer
