No excuse for this situation

To the Editor:

On Thursday, Nov. 19, at 11:45 a.m., I was outside waiting for the school bus to drop off a 3-and-a-half-year-old boy from the LEAAP Center. When he had not arrived by 11:55, I went in the house and noticed a message on my machine.

It was from transportation saying he would be here in five minutes. They left the message at 11:45, so I called and let them know he had not got here. The woman I talked to informed me that he had been taken back to the LEAAP Center because no one was home. I told her that was not true. I had been home all day and was outside waiting for them to drop him off.

She again stated no one was home and that no one answered the phone. I said well of course no one answered the phone because I was outside waiting for the bus.

Again, rudely, I am told no one was home repeatedly. How anyone can miss an adult walking a 20-month-old and a dog and a car in the drive is beyond me.

There is no excuse for the irresponsibility of taking a 3-and-a-half-year-old back to sit at the center.

We are supposed to trust these people with children?

I had to leave for a doctor's appointment, so I was very fortunate to get the grandparents, who went to pick him up.

When I returned from the doctor, I had a message from transportation offering to bring him home, one hour and 45 minutes past normal time.
