Letter to the Editor

Neighborhood wants change

Sunday, April 11, 2010

To the Editor:

To whom it may concern,

As neighbors of the East Side Elementary School, we are writing this letter to express concerns about the chiller that is being installed on the west side of the building.

Neighbor Brad Llewellyn, has been employed by a commercial plumbing, HVAC contractor for 30 years and has installed many of these units.

He has never seen an 80-ton chiller placed this close to a residential area.

We know the chiller will sound like a freight train.

The noise will affect us in many ways.

Our sleep will be disturbed.

We use our yards as extensions of our homes and, conversation will even be a problem with the noise this equipment will make.

The resale value of our homes will go down.

The enormous amount of noise may cause hindrances we haven't even thought of yet.

We are sure that none of you would live with these conditions.

We are also in the process of finding out about any noise ordinance the City of Brazil enforces in residential areas.

We feel that it was poor planning to install this unit in its present location.

We want the school to move the unit away from the homes and enclose it with some kind of sound muffling material.

Sincerely,

Brad and Lynne Llewellyn,

Jim and Betty Middledorf,

And all the neighbors of East Side School
