Grateful for council's decision

Sunday, April 11, 2010

To the Editor:

My property taxes that are due this year are down by more than 50 percent from last year.

My house and property are the same, but what changed was the Clay County Council passed a Local Option Income Tax of 1 percent last year.

The income from this tax is split by giving 75 percent of it to help reduce all residential property taxes and 25 percent goes to local police and safety funds.

This was not an easy tax for the council to pass as no one wants to pay more in taxes than they have to. But the 1 percent of your income you can save more than 50 percent on property taxes sounds like a real good deal to me.

A big thank you to the Clay County Council for doing the right thing.

Now let's see you pass a Wheel Tax so that we can get our roads paved.
