Challenging all to donate to cause

Sunday, June 6, 2010

To the Editor:

The Clay County Service Vets are having a hog roast at the National Guard Armory June 11, start at 4 p.m., through 7 p.m.

The public is invited.

Cost for the meal is $7 for adults and $4 for children 12-under.

The food is catered by Goodie's Galore and the baked beans were donated by Mary Fisher.

The purpose of the hog roast is to raise additional funds to purchase a new mini-van for the local VA Office.

Thus far, the vets group has raised $3,997 to date towards the $16,000 needed.

All Clay County clubs are invited to have a fundraiser for this purpose as all money raised will go toward the purchase.

If more money is donated, we'll apply toward insurance, vet decals along with Eagle Lodge Emblem.

This account is strictly a savings account and for no other purpose other than the van for local office of veterans that they might contact for transportation to VA facilities for treatment.

The van now in use requires repairs constantly and has excess miles on it so that the Clay Vets group committee decided to raise money for a new one.

The money is in a savings until such time as the amount is raised for purchase.

I am challenging all vets from every branch of service that reside in Clay County to donate any amount from a dollar up to our goal.

Donations may be dropped off at our hometown bank (Riddell National Bank) and make sure to put "Clay Vets Mini-Van Group" on the check or phone the V.F.W. or the American Legion and someone from the groups will arrange to pick it up.

Or mail it to Riddell National Bank, 1 E. National Ave., Brazil, or drop it off at the drive-thru.
