'Silly' law needs to be reviewed

Sunday, June 20, 2010

To the Editor:

On Saturday, June 12, my son put his beagle dog outside on a leash and of course, as most dogs do, she started to bark.

Now this was 2 p.m., in the afternoon.

The next thing he knows, the police are showing to give him a citation for the dog barking, and when he questioned the officer, he was told that a dog cannot be heard 25 yards, if it is then a citation could be issued, even if the dog is in the house and the dog starts barking and can be heard, he can get a citation.

Now, I understand that if it is late at night, or if a dog runs loose, but how can you keep your dog from barking and not being heard?

How many persons have heard dogs barking in their neighborhood and did not call the police.

I believe this is a silly law and needs to be reviewed.

Thank you,

Sheila Skelton,
