Constitution Week

Monday, September 13, 2010

Brazil resident Janice Bedwell (right), head of the Fort Harrison Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution Constitution Week Committee, watches Brazil Mayor Ann Bradshaw sign a proclamation Monday morning declaring Sept. 17-23, 2010 as Constitution Week. The week commemorates the 223rd anniversary of the signing of the United States Constitution on Sept. 17, 1787. The original resolution to observe Constitution Week was adopted by the United States Congress and signed into Public Law No. 915 on Aug. 2, 1956 by President Dwight D. Eisenhower. The U.S. Constitution is the oldest document still in active use that outlines the self-government of a people.
