To AP: Stop with the sob stories

To the Editor:

Recently, the Associated Press reported that Medicare rise could mean no Social Security raise for 2012.

Although they are predicting a slight cost-of-living adjustment for Social Security benefits next year, the first increase since 2009.

But, for most beneficiaries, rising Medicare premiums threaten to wipe out any increase in payments, leaving them without a raise for a third-straight year.

Of course, if the Associated Press wasn't the giant news media it is, then we wouldn't know what was going on in this country or any other country, would we?

Like, ain't it amazing how their reporters happen to be around in some off-the-wall "hicktown," and single out one Social Security beneficiary out of 45 million people who receive Social Security and ask them their opinion about the no raise subject.

Like some woman named Joyce Trebilcock, a retired secretary giving her sob story about how she already has a tough time paying her $500 mortgage as it is.

She says she only gets $1,262 a month.

That's more than my wife and I receive on our Social Security, both together.

Come on AP. You think this woman is the only person this no cola thing for 2012 affects?

And, if that's not enough, the AP happen to be in Indianapolis not so long ago and singled out another woman just because she voted early on an absentee ballot, like she's the only one that ever voted absentee.

Doesn't the AP have anything better to do than report sob stories?
