Park Board offers explanation

Monday, July 4, 2011

To the Editor:

The Brazil City Parks and Recreation Board would like the citizens of Brazil to know that they had nothing to do with the decision to sell alcohol at the Forest Park Golf Course.

In 1981, the city created a Golf Board to handle all of the affairs of the Golf Course. The Park Board was relieved of any duties or decisions concerning the Golf Course. In addition, there are no park monies spent to maintain the Golf Course.

All of the Parks and Recreation budget is spent to maintain the city's three parks.

I have received several phone calls from citizens who believed that the Golf Course was part of the park and that is no longer true.

They are governed by their own set of rules and ordinances.

Ruthann Jeffries,

Brazil City Parks and Recreation Board
