Leave the smokers alone

To the Editor:

Greetings from the Weddles and Snow Ellen.

This letter is about the smoking ban that's going on in Terre Haute and a few other cities.

Now, I'm not against these bands, but I'm also not exactly for them, either.

All I'm saying is you have these "do-gooders" who go out of their way to take the smoker's rights away.

They don't mind finding a way to take the smoker's rights away as long as it doesn't take their rights away as a "do-gooder."

Although I don't think there's a smoking ban in Brazil, to my knowledge, but you can rest assured someone in this town will do everything they can to get one established.

I know smoking can be dangerous to one's health, to both smokers and non-smokers alike.

But the fact is, it is a legal product and the smokers pay the tax on it.

Alcoholic beverages are also legal, but it's still dangerous to drink and drive.

I used to be a smoker myself. Although I don't smoke anymore, I'm not against people who do, because I believe if they want to smoke and then they should be allowed to do it.

Why don't these "do-gooders" just tend to their own business and leave the smokers alone? And while there at it, leave the tobacco companies alone.

What else do they want? They already made the companies take their ads off TV, radio, newspapers, magazines, etc. But they don't mind leaving the beer ads with scantily clad women in their TV beer commercials.

That's all for now. Next time, back to Brazil in the year 1947.

Oh yeah, I forgot. Tobacco products are not allowed on billboards, either.
