Letter to the Editor

Beware of channel snatchers

Sunday, February 12, 2012

To the Editor:

This is to all of you out there that have DirecTV.

This morning, Thursday, Feb. 9, I turned on my TV and went to channel 308. It gave me a message that I didn't subscribe to this channel. Well, excuse me, but I do.

I have the choice xtra package and (the channel) is included.

I finally got through to DirecTV and they advised me that the only way to get that station now is to upgrade to choice ultimate.

Even though we have a valid signed contract with DirecTV for 12 months, they can change anything they want to.

Now, I cannot cancel my subscription for that 12-month period because of the signed contract, but they can.

To all of you with DirecTV, call and complain. Somehow, this just doesn't seem right, now does it?

Do you ever feel like companies just love to take advantage of us?

I do and the older I get, the more I see it happening.

They take our money and then they do what they want, but if you say cancel my subscription, you are told you cannot do that as you have signed a contract.

Well, they have me. (The channel) is one of my favorite channels, and the reason I switched from cable to DirecTV was so I could get that channel without having to pay an arm, leg and other organs for it.

But I love that channel, so now I have to pay extra to get it. No discounts for those of us on social security. Heaven forbid on that. But, hey, I am going to now get Encore and Sundance. Now isn't that just wonderful?

Not!

I really didn't want them.

Am I upset? Yes, I am.

This is happening to us more and more and it seems no one cares. Big business can do what they want when they want, just like our fair government. And we, the people, just have to take it.

You need to call and complain to them about this people. Whether or not you watch this channel, you need to let them know how upset you are about it and not just take it.

Who knows how many more stations they will do this to and it may be a station that you watch.

So, to all of you who have DirecTV, you need to let them know there are other providers out there and as soon as your one-year contract is up, you intend to change.

I did.

One of the biggest problems today is that the people will not stand up and say, 'Hey, we are mad as heck and we aren't going to take it anymore.' We don't have to.

So, please call DirecTV and let them know we don't like being taken advantage of.

Thank you.

Jaqui Griffith,
