Please dispose of trash properly

Sunday, July 15, 2012

To the Editor:

After retiring a couple of years ago, we moved to Clay County from a large metropolitan area.

We wanted to be able to enjoy the beauty, the peace and quiet, and the unhurried life of a rural area.

For the most part, this is what we have experienced.

One activity that we like to do is walk along the country roads, enjoying the birds and nature along the way.

However, one thing that really disturbs us is the amount of garbage thrown out of car and truck windows along the roadside.

People: The country is not a dump! Everyday, we see broken glass bottles, plastic bottles and containers, aluminum cans and trash in general.

Please, put your garbage into a bag or box in your car or truck and take it home to dispose of properly. Better yet, recycle the items that can be recycled.

Another thing that disturbs us, especially since the ground is so tinder dry now, is the number of cigarette butts that are along the roadside.

Please dispose of them properly. You are risking people's lives and property by throwing them out the window into the dry grass of the roadsides and yards.

And a message to Mr. Marlboro Man: Keep your empty packs in your vehicle and dispose of them once you are home. You are probably the person throwing your cigarette butts out of the window, too.

Thank you,

The Tyners,

Brazil
