Letter to the Editor

Skatepark closer to conclusion

Monday, January 21, 2013

To the Editor:

It has been an exciting two months.

So much has been happening. If you have not been by the skatepark site, I would encourage you to do so.

It is on the northeast corner of Jackson and Wesleyan Church streets, across the street from the Head Start building.

The construction of the skatepark has begun. It is hard to believe that we will soon realize the completion of the Clay Community Skatepark.

We still have some funds to raise for guardrails, signage and landscaping, but the end is in sight.

Over the next couple of months, we want to create excitement that will encourage others to join our effort.

One of the ways of doing that is to publicize our donor lists so that the community can appreciate the breadth of our community support.

How fortunate we are to have a newspaper as supportive of our community as The Brazil Times.

The Clay Community Skatepark Committee has benefited from their immeasurable support.

We will soon be ordering bricks for the 'Wall of Donors.'

Anyone interested in an engraved brick or an additional brick can do so until Jan. 31.

The levels for the 'Wall of Donors' are: Victory Level (4-by-8) brick for donations of $200-$499, and the Champion Level (8-by-8) brick, for $500-$999.

The Gold Medal Level for donations of $1,000 or more will have your name or business name on a large piece of limestone that will be placed in the center of the brick wall.

The wall will be built by the entrance to the skatepark on Jackson Street.

Donations already given will be added to the amount needed to purchase a brick or the limestone centerpiece.
