Habitat for Humanity pleased with turnout

Sunday, January 27, 2013

To the Editor:

Habitat for Humanity of Clay County had a wonderful turnout for the Jan. 17, informational meeting required for families who want to apply for the next home.

The applications are due Feb. 5, 2013.

We want to thank Mary Yelton and Clay Community Schools for use of the room at the LEAAP Center for our meeting.

We also sincerely appreciate Jason Moon and The Brazil Times for publicizing the meeting frequently from Nov. 17, 2012-Jan. 16, 2013.

The Clay City News, Terre Haute Tribune-Star, Riddell National Bank, churches and local businesses also helped us by sharing the meeting information.

We have a terrific opportunity to make our next fundraiser really count.

Our Jonah Fish Fry and Silent Auction will take place April 13, 2013, at the Brazil National Guard Armory.

The Wabash Valley Foundation will match up to $2,500 of the money raised at the event.

Please mark your calendar and attend to help us reach our goal.

Our Clay County businesses were very generous last year with donations for the Silent Auction.

We hope they will support us again this year.

Through the generous support of our community, we are able to work toward our mission of building no-frills affordable homes for Clay County families.

We will build our eighth home this year, at 703 S. Chicago Ave., Brazil.

Volunteers and the recipient family will build the home.

If you are interested in volunteering your labor this year, you may contact Keith Bowers at 443-7021, Jim Rupp at 812-939-2971, or any board member.

Would you be interested in serving on the Habitat for Humanity Board of Directors?

We meet on the first Thursday of each month at 7 p.m., at the Center Point United Methodist Church.

We build the homes, write grants, hold fundraisers, locate sites for the homes, publicize Habitat sponsored events, stay in contact with our family partners, serve as officers to conduct Habitat business and ask for donations of money, labor, time and materials.

You may contact any board member or contact Rogene Morge at 448-1159 if you would like more information.
