Cabbage Can Cure Skin Inflammation?
While at lunch with a friend the other day, she told me about a relative of hers who had a skin irritation that would not heal. Someone suggested that she try using cabbage.
This really caught my attention. I had never heard of that before. I always want to learn something new every day so I asked her to give me details.
She said her relative, as advised, took an outer leaf of raw cabbage and washed and dried it. Then she rolled it with a rolling pin to break loose the juices in the leaf. She placed it on her inflamed skin and secured it with saran wrap. Within just a few days the lesion was almost gone.
Totally amazed, I rushed home and looked this up on the internet. Wow! It had all kinds of entries on what cabbage could do for our health and why. Seems it contains glutamine an amino acid, Vitamin K, potassium and quercetin an antioxidant.
According to the internet cabbage can help relieve symptoms of: joint pain, lymphedema, constipation, painful breasts from breastfeeding, obesity, headaches, enlarged prostate, inflammation, wounds, bruising and hangovers.
I had no idea. This is great, I thought. I have to try it. I have some spots on my face from sun damage. That's kind of like a skin lesion isn't it?
So I pulled an outer leaf from a head of cabbage, washed and dried it. Then I rolled it with a rolling pin to break loose the juices and placed it on my right jaw. I didn't think I could secure it with saran wrap without suffocating so I taped it to my face with scotch tape.
After 20 minutes I took it off. The spots were the same. But my skin was red and irritated where the tape had been. Now I admit the internet didn't list sun damaged skin specifically as a cabbage cure. I really was disappointed. The internet didn't say how often or how long to do this. Maybe one treatment wasn't enough.
I'm not a doctor and I didn't even stay at a Holiday Inn. So don't take this article as a recommendation or endorsement. If you want to try the cabbage cure please consult your doctor or pharmacist first. If you get the OK and try it, let me know the results. Keep smiling.
