2018 Christmas delivery is complete
We will send some links to the pictures of our amazing volunteers soon. In the meantime, we felt the need to share the texts and messages we received from a few of our volunteers today.
From a Volunteer: "My delivery is complete. This is the best Christmas present I'll get this year. (My) Family was very appreciative. lots of tears, even the older boy gave me a very big hug. Thank you."
From a family we delivered to: "My family just got hoe and were so surprised by the amount of food our our porch! My 6 year old daughter even asked if Santa came early." Thank you so much! This program has been such a blessing."
From a family who asked if we were coming to deliver because we weren't there yet. We explained we had a few volunteers who needed to deliver and then come pack to get more take a couple more deliveries so were a bit late: "Never mind. My apologies. They just came. Thanks to you, your program, the community, staff and volunteers. Thanks for your work, your concern, your generosity, kindness, and the blessings. Merry Christmas. God Bless."
From a family: "Thank you so much for helping our family today. It means so much to us and will help us out greatly through Christmas break!"
From a Volunteer: "As we pulled up to deliver (to the kids) two very cute and sweet kids were playing outside and started jumping up and down very joyously saying "The food is here, the food is here!" No I am not sure about you, but my kids always have gotten excited like that for their birthday or Christmas gift, but not food. That vision will forever be in my memory of those kids and how happy they were to just get food. This Program is blessing so many."
From a volunteer (who wasn't scheduled to take this delivery by just helped out and took a couple more deliveries): "The first home we delivered to, the young boy (around 10 years old) opened the door with only his pajamas on. We tried to start unpacking the food for the home, but he kept insisting, "I have this." He would carry a load and came running back saying, "I have this. I'll take it for you." We finished handing him all the food and it took him 5 trips. He brought his mom to the door at the end. They waved and yelled, "Thank you." We yelled back" "You are very welcome and have a Merry Christmas." Both of them smiled and said, "We will! Merry Christmas to you!" Our volunteer said she had the "happy cry feeling."
From the same volunteer: "The next house we delivered to was similar. Four kids of all ages were standing by the door when we pulled up waiting on our delivery. They unpacked all their food from our truck, piece by piece. They thanked us twice. The little girl wouldn't talk, but finally smiled huge when we said, "Have a Merry Christmas."
We often debate the Vienna sausages. Fact is, kids either love them or hate them. It is difficult however to find another pop-top protein food we can substitute. From our amazing volunteer who volunteered to cover all the uncovered deliveries at the end of the day. She delivered to a family and a little boy threw up his hands and shouted, "The sausages! I love them!" The kids we worry about the most are not picky.
And one of our volunteers received a thank you not from family we have delivered to all year long for 4 years: "Your kindness is a special way brought God's blessings to my day. Thank you."
We are a community, working together and doing the impossible. Thank you!
