Christmas by the numbers
We are going to tell the story by the numbers. Please remember, every number of families and children served has a face and a story that go with that number. Each story is different. In some cases we are helping families who are doing the best they can and in some cases we are simply helping the kids. We have had a great many questions about about how we "decide" which families and kids we serve. The answer is, "We do not." We serve all who ask for help. We will share our frequently asked questions and our answers soon, but this is about what our community did together for Christmas Delivery 2018. Some of our numbers were higher and some were lower, but we have a number for what we accomplished together!
We served 357 families, 940 children and spent $29,269.32.
We delivered 28,266 pounds of food and 16,427 pounds of water.
The "pounds" break down to: 940 boxes (12 count) pop tarts, 940 (boxes of 10) fruit snacks, 960 bags (28 ounce) cereal, 940 packages of peanut butter sandwich crackers, 940 jars of grape jelly, 940 boxes of Honey Buns (with a bit left over to donate to the Food Pantry), 940 boxes of crackers, 940 jars of peanut butter, 648 cases of Vienna sausages (of 24) which equals 15,552 cans, 940 cases (of 12) of pop top canned pasta which equals 11,400 cans, and 940 boxes of 3 day snacks.
We were also able to deliver apples and oranges to the kids and candy thanks to our wonderful volunteers getting the donations.
We had almost 300 volunteers come on 12/19/18 to help pack. We had Duke Energy helping us on both days along with some dedicated volunteers who never left, and Nicole Fry with Clay County YMCA who takes care of so much for us. We had over 250 volunteers on 12/20/18 to help deliver and load the food.
We also want to thank Troy Page at Brazil Save A Lot who worked with us to get the food at the best price possible, loaded food, hauled food, and helped deliver food with us.
We delivered to kids in all of Clay County with a few in Park County, Owen, and Putnam who attend Clay County Schools.
Are you amazed? We are! It is amazing what we accomplish together. We make this up as we go along and you always help us. Someone is in charge and it is not us. Thank you. #webelieve
