The Indiana State track and field teams competed in an indoor duel meet on Friday, Jan. 12 that included Division I competition between the Sycamores and Illinois State as well as Division III Manchester, Rose-Hulman and Washington University in Missouri.
Former Northview Knight Cam Trout competed for the Sycamores in the 3,000 meter run and placed third in the Division I race with a time of 8:46. Teammate Quentin Davis was the winner in 8:31.29.
Trout made his Sycamore indoor track debut earlier this season when he won the same event with a time of 8:50.66 in the Early Bird Invite at Eastern Illinois University on Dec. 8.
Next up for the Sycamores is a trip to the Gladstein Invitational at Indiana University on Jan. 19-20.
Former Northview standout Ashley Kidwell is a junior at IUPUI and the indoor track and field season has gotten underway for the Jaguars.
Kidwell has not competed thus far with the Jaguars during the 2018 indoor season, but the Jaguars are heading into a weekend trip to the Fort Wayne Duals on Saturday at 11 a.m.
During the cross country season in the fall, Kidwell raced to a time of 24:07 in the six-kilometer race in the Division I Great Lakes Region Cross Country Championship on Nov. 10 for the Jaguars. She placed 44th overall two weeks earlier in the Horizon League Championship with a time of 24:11.
Clay City grad Logan Thomas had a strong start to the 2017 cross country season for Harding University in Arkansas before an injury sidelined him midway through the season. He is expected to contribute during the track and field season for the Bison.
Thomas ran fifth on the team during the Bison’s trip to the D2 Showcase at Trevecca Nazarene on Sept. 23. Thomas was 58th overall in a time of 28:08 in the eight-kilometer event.
Northview alum Mikayla Rowan has been a solid contributor for a tough University of Southern Indiana hoops squad.
The Division II squad is 12-2 overall this season and is unbeaten (9-0) on its home court while reaching No. 18 in the DII Media Top-25 poll on Jan. 9.
Rowan currently sports averages of 3.4 points per game to go with four rebounds and has been averaging two assists over the last six contests. Rowan has averaged 16 minutes per game during her junior campaign and posted a season-high 10 points on New Years Eve against Grace College. Rowan’s high mark of eight rebounds was on Dec. 16 against Harris Stowe State in 19 minutes of action.
The six-foot-one inch forward has achieved All-Great Lakes Valley Conference Academic honors during her first two seasons.
Across the state line at Olney, Ill., the Lady Knights of Olney Central returned home after the holiday break in December to pick up a 74-70 victory over John A. Logan.
Former Northview Knight Mallory Smith continued a strong sophomore season with the Blue Knights with a nine-point effort in the victory. She also grabbed two boards in the contest and former Clay City Eel Alisha Steward dished out an assist.
Smith got the start for Olney and played 22 minutes, shot 3-of-9 from the field while Steward saw seven minutes of action.
Smith has played in all 15 games for Olney Central this season and has averaged 10.5 points per game and 4.1 rebounds while shooting 35-percent from 3-point range. Smith has been in double figures scoring eight times with a season-high of 20 points against Lindenwood Belleville JV on Nov. 10. Smith has averaged six rebounds per game over the last four contests with a high water mark of eight accomplished on two different occasions.
This season Steward, who is a freshman, has played in 13 games and has averaged 3.6 points as well as a rebound and an assist. She scored a season-high eight points against Greenville’s JV in a 78-52 win on Dec. 12. On three separate occasions Steward has grabbed three rebounds and she had a six-game streak with at least one steal.
The Blue Knights are 10-5 overall this season and traveled to Rend Lake College this evening (Jan. 17).
