City to get planning and zoning administrator

Brazil City Council gave the mayor permission to advertise for a full-time planning and zoning administrator at their regular meeting last night. The person hired for this position will be responsible for receiving fines from residents who ignore city ordinances for property clean-up, trash removal and unsafe structures. Prior to the creation of this new position, water office employees had been handling the duties without much success of collecting fines or enforcing the ordinances...

Man escapes flames

Fire burned a portion of the Jim O'Vivian residence, 335 W. Ridge St., early this morning. O'Vivian and his dog escaped unharmed. However O'Vivian was later transported to St. Vincent Clay Hospital with chest pains. Sinfonietta to perform 'Gypsy Nights'

The Sinfonietta, Terre Haute's Symphonic Pops Orchestra, is scheduled to perform Sunday at 3 p.m. at the Scottish Rite Cathedral Auditorium, located at the corner of Eighth and Ohio Streets. One of their popular features is called "Gypsy Nights." The program will offer such familiar numbers as "Dark Eyes," "Gypsy Carnival," "Moscow Nights" and "The Gypsy Legend." There are also some excerpts from the most famous gypsy music of all time, "Carmen."...
