County firefighters raise money for cancer victim

County firefighters presented fireman Shane Zurcher with a check for over $5,000 this week, Mayor Kenny Crabb told the City Council Tuesday evening. The Brazil firefighters' union local had a food booth at the Rotary Celebration July 3-4 to raise funds for Zurcher, who will begin chemotherapy soon. It was a success, as they made over $2,500. Budget, pool programs discussed

The Brazil Park and Recreation Board approved an estimated budget of $204,153 during their Monday night meeting at City Hall. The proposed budget will be submitted to the City Clerk for approval. Pool Manager Sara Osborn reported it has generated revenue of $12,791.25 so far this season. The second swimming lesson session begins Monday. People can enroll as long as vacancies are available. Should you buy flood insurance? Option is now available in Clay County

Clay County residents are now allowed to purchase Federally-backed flood insurance. The local program went into operation June 6. There are 19,000 communities nationwide with more than 4 million flood insurance policies in operation.
