Nine area boys recently received All-State Team awards at the Southern Indiana Babe Ruth banquet. The awards banquet was held on Oct. 19 at the Bloomington Convention Center. All-State Team Members were picked out of a pool of thousands of players based on sportsmanship, leadership, and play excellence during the 2003 Cal Ripken and Babe Ruth state tournaments. ...

Veterans Day is for all military personnel

At the 11th hour on the 11th day of the 11th month the fighting stopped. Recognition of the celebrated end of World War I became known as Armistice Day. It became a national holiday by Congressional resolution in 1938. According to the "VFW Citizenship Education", if the idealistic hope had been realized that World War I was "the War to end all Wars," Nov. 11 might still be called Armistice Day...

Dix gives back

The late Bob Dix, owner of McCurdy's Decorating Center, was a very patriotic man. The Army Air Force veteran passed away Nov. 9, 2002. He made a bequeath of $5,000 each to the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. Also receiving $5,000 each, bequeathed by Dix, were the Clay Football League, Clay County Youth League, YMCA of Clay County and the Clay County Humane Society...

Carter warns of call list problems

Attorney General Steve Carter visited Terre Haute yesterday, giving a brief speech on the impact a court case in Oklahoma may have on Indiana. The case, which is being reviewed by the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals, is being held in Tulsa over the legality of a federal Do-Not-Call list. The list has seen a number of roadblocks in its road to finalization, some of which could hinder Indiana's own list, Carter said...
