Philip Loren Anderson was born Dec. 4, 1922, in Brazil, to Victor and Fern (Baughman) Anderson. He died Dec. 29, 2009, in Lawton, Okla., at the age of 87. Mr. Anderson was raised and attended school in Brazil. After graduation from high school, he entered college, but left school in the middle of his junior year to join the Army Air Corps. Mr. Anderson spent the next two-and-a-half years in Europe flying a total of 32 missions over France and Germany before the end of the war...
