One hurt in crash north of Coalmont

A Shelburn man was injured Monday afternoon when his vehicle was struck by a semi-trailer hauling coal on State Road 159 just north of Coalmont. State Police say Roy Zimmerman, 66, pulled his 1998 Chevrolet pickup out of a private drive on 159 and into the path of a southbound 1986 Freightliner pulling a dump trailer loaded with coal. The semi driver attempted to maneuver around the pickup but could not avoid the collision. It then traveled off the road and rolled onto its passenger side...

Each week, it seems, you can hear sirens on fire trucks in Clay County heading to a fire or some other emergency. The sirens are loud and one wonders if they are affecting the hearing of the firefighters riding inside the trucks. Firefighters in New York, Philadelphia, Boston, New Jersey and the Chicago area have filed lawsuits against the maker of sirens used on fire trucks over the past 10 years, said attorney Marc Bern, who's leading the litigation...
