Powell Samuel Barnett was born in Brazil, Indiana, on August 2, 1883, to Powell Benjamin (b.abt 1855) and Sadie Johnston Barnett of Virginia; his grandparents were Samuel and Matilda Barnett. Powell’s family migrated from Brazil to Roslyn, Washington, in 1889. His father, an ex-slave, was one of many black miners recruited to work in the coal mines of Washington state. DAR unveils painting in courthouse

The Eliza Rizley Stacey Chapter of the DAR held an unveiling of the Evalyn Gertrude James painting in the Clay County Court House Rotunda on Friday, November 15th, 2019. The ERS Chapter had taken on the task of having the painting restored. Clay City Council still seeking apprenticeship candidate
