“Eating high on the hog” is an expression which meant we are eating a very good meal. What could be better than a good Indiana corn-fed hog? The Oak Restaurant was a place to eat high on the hog with big boiled ham served with plenty of sweet fat for seasoning on the platter. The proprietors sliced the ham generously so that it hung out of a fresh, sweet bun, all for a nickel, was a remembrance of the popular restaurant. A sign in the restaurant read, “Eat Here or We Both Will Starve.”...

Freezing temperatures caused a break in an eight-inch city water line on Tuesday, but it was repaired without the need for a boil order. Brazil Mayor Brian Wyndham was with the city water department crew at the water line break near the 300 block of north Hoosier Street during the repair process that took six-seven hours. The rupture only affected the city water customers in that area...

Swearingen named to HBCA All-District team

On Wednesday morning, the Hoosier Basketball Coaches Association released its 2020-21 All-District teams with the following statement: “The players below have been voted upon by the HBCA member coaches to be recognized as among the best senior players in Southern Indiana! While this is a notable honor, only about half of these players are invited to play at the Annual All-Star Classic after HBCA members vote on the Regional All-Star ballots...
