CLAY COUNTY THROUGH THE YEARS: Two Brazil natives perished at sea on the USS Indianapolis

At 00:15 on July 30, 1945, aboard the USS Indianapolis was a total of 1,195 crewmen assigned to a US Navy Secret Mission, included were Artie Ronald Miller and Robert Clyde Lamb, of Brazil, Indiana. After major repairs and overhaul, the Indianapolis had received orders to undertake a top-secret mission of the utmost significance to national security: to proceed to Tinian Island carrying the enriched uranium (about half of the world’s supply of uranium-235 at the time) and other parts required for the assembly of the atomic bomb, code named “Little Boy,” which would be dropped on Hiroshima a few weeks later.. ...
