Of the early meat markets in Clay City was one owned by Dan Molter. Another in Clay City was Lorenze Meyer’s. Lorenze was advertising in the Clay City Reporter in March 14, 1890. The short paragraph stated, “Fresh, clean, juicy, tender meat kept constantly on hand at Lorenz Meyer’s Meat Market on upper 5th Street.” In December the Clay City Reporter ran a paragraph stating, “The new meat market, on upper 5th Street, is a model of neatness, and the pleasant proprietor, Lorenz Meyer, takes great pleasure in serving his customers with choice steaks and roasts. ...

U.S. Marshal Service captures wanted murder suspect in Clay County

The U.S. Marshal Service captured a wanted suspect in Clay County on Tuesday for the November murder of a promising rapper in Tennessee. According to their website (usmarshals.gov): “After a coordinated investigation by the U.S. Marshals Two Rivers Violent Fugitive Task Force and the Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force, Justin Johnson was captured today around 3:00 p.m. (C.S.T.) in Indiana.”...

Homecoming queen and king candidates for Northview High School are (from left, front) Libby Nobles, Siddalee Clark, Amelia Ringholz, Jordan McCrocklin, Raelee Everhart and Ava Dorsett; (back) Jordan Hancock, Joey Whitesell, Eli Whittle, Garrett Lovins, Jared Parkey and Gage Youngblood. Winners will be crowned Friday night during the South Putnam basketball game.
