Bowling Green Old Settlers Picnic set

BOWLING GREEN -- The 141st Bowling Green Old Settlers Picnic is scheduled for Aug. 27-29.

Several events are slated for this year's event, with festivities beginning Thursday, Aug. 27.

The Bowling Green United Methodist Youth Group will sponsor a Ribeye Dinner from 5-9 p.m., under the awning at the community building, to kick things off. The meal will include a 6-ounce ribeye steak, baked potato, green beans, salad and a drink for $8. Dessert is $1 extra while a steak sandwich and drink costs just $5.

As well, Bingo will take place Aug. 27. Longaberger baskets, pampered chef and other assorted prizes will be available. Doors open at 6 p.m., at the community building and games begin at 7 p.m. Cost to play 10 games is $10. Refreshments will be available.

On Friday, Aug. 28, a Jonah Fish Fry has been scheduled from 4-8 p.m. Cost is $7.50 for adults and $4.50 for children 12-under. Dessert will cost an additional $1.

The heavyweight horse pull will take place Aug. 28, at 7:30 p.m. There is no entry fee and the first-place trophy has been donated by Brown and Heffner Equipment.

The Gospel Quartet Firm Foundation will take the stage from 5:30-7 p.m., Friday, Aug. 28, followed by the Jackson Township Community Band, which will perform from 7-8 p.m.

The Rise and Shine Cloggers will also perform from 8:30-9:30 p.m.

On Saturday, Aug 29, the Masonic Lodge No. 85 will have a breakfast from 7-11 a.m. Freewill offerings will be accepted and all funds from the breakfast will go to upkeep of the lodge building.

The annual Baby contests will take place Saturday, Aug. 29, beginning with newborn through 12 months at 9 a.m., followed by 13 months two 24 months at 9:45 a.m., toddlers (ages 2-3) at 10:30 a.m., and the Little Miss contest (ages 4-6), at 11 a.m.

In the Baby contests, prizes will be awarded for Little Prince, Little Princess, Best Smile and Prettiest Eyes.

In the Toddler contest, prizes will be awarded for Little Prince, Little Princess, Prettiest Eyes and Best Smile.

In the Little Miss contest, prizes will be awarded for Little Miss, First Runner-up and Second Runner-up.

A Pedal Tractor Pull has been scheduled for 2:30 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 29, on the west side of the town square, and will be open to all children through 12.

Tractors will be provided and trophies will be given to the winner of each class.

All participants will receive ribbons.

A chicken noodle dinner is set for 4-8 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 29. Cost is $7.50 for adults (per plate) and $4.50 for children 12-under (per plate). Dessert will cost an additional $1.

The antique tractor pull will take place at 7 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 29. For more information, call 812-236-7976 or 812-240-8881.

Entertainment for Saturday, Aug. 29, will be provided by Purchased Band (Contemporary Gospel Trio), from 5:30-7:30 p.m., and the Eastern Wing Band (7:15-10 p.m.).

Helicopter rides will also be available at Ball Field Aug. 28-29, and a Cruise-In will take place on the east side of the square Aug. 29.

Arts and crafts and flea markets will also be on display throughout the event.
