Letter to the Editor

Grandmother gives thanks for items

Sunday, June 20, 2010

To the Editor:

A few weeks ago, the Clay County Courthouse employees put out boxes for us to donate items for our troops.

My grandson, Josh Childress, serving on the USS Eisenhower in the Arabian Ocean, was a recipient of two of these boxes.

This was Josh's third deployment and as you can see by reading his note, he was appreciative of it all.

I wanted to publicly say thank you.

A proud grandmother,

Donna Bowman,

Brazil

Editor's Note: The following is an e-mail response from Josh Childress to Donna Bowman, his grandmother:

Grandma,

I just wanted to let you know that I got the packages you sent me yesterday.

I was really blown away when I saw all of the stuff you sent.

I think you mentioned that some other people that you work with pitched in.

I just wanted to say thank you and to let everyone know how much I appreciate everything you sent.

Most of the stuff I really needed and I will really enjoy the snacks (I already have).

It really means a lot to get packages like that when you are so far away from the people that really care about you, and it is hard to express the gratitude that I really feel.

It is things like that, that remind us that there are people that are supporting us and what we are doing, thousands of miles away and gives me that little bit of inspiration that I need to make it through these last 40 days.

I hope you have a wonderful day and know that your grandson loves you very much.
