Old memory comes to forefront

Moose Lodge Administrator Greg Detro (left) and Michael Rambo, Governor, display a $400 check recently donated to the Clay County Vets Mini-van fund.

To the Editor:

I walked into the local Moose Lodge on South Depot Street for the close out dinner for the van fund.

The first fellow I saw said, "you enlisted me in 1962 into the U.S. Army."

We shook hands and then Greg Detro handed me the $400 check, which topped off the dinners that Clay County vets may ride to and from the VA clinics and hospital appointments.

In addition, I received a check from the eight survivors men's club from Korean Eraof, a local Brazil group whom are spread as far away as Florida and nearby in Terre Haute.

They are J. Forrest G. Lawson, R. Miller, G. Matthews, R. Stearley, M. Dickerson, H. Bolinger and R. Clark.

Thanks, men, and may you know that Clay County appreciates your service and your gift.

Then, for those five that have passed on: I knew four of them well, and two who made use of the VA hospital.

They were all good men. I went to school with them.
