Letter to the Editor

Strongly disagree with reader's opinion

To the Editor:

This is in response to David W. Page's letter regarding not allowing anyone who is not a member of the National Guard to bear arms.

So, Mr. Page, you would not allow anyone over the age of 45 to own a weapon? Do you realize that you would put all elderly people at risk?

My father is 89-years-old, and he has recently acquired a gun because he was forced, by a stranger, to pay hundreds of dollars for the stranger to pour some oil on his driveway, supposedly "fixing" it, against my father's will.

The man forced his way into the house and refused to leave until he was paid.

I am over 65-years-old and live on a gravel road in an isolated area.

Would you leave me helpless in case someone should try to break into my house when I am home alone?

So you only believe that healthy young or middle-aged people should be allowed to defend themselves, even in the privacy of their own homes?

Criminals recognize no restrictions on their right to bear arms.

Yet, you would disarm law-abiding citizens with no criminal record who simply want to protect their own lives and the lives of their family members?

Late at night, I believe there are only two sheriff's deputies on duty in the whole Parke County.

My nearest neighbor is not within shouting distance.

I appreciate your interest in solving the gun problem, but I fear your solution is inadequate.
