Indiana resident honored by proclamation

Sunday, March 10, 2013

To the Editor:

Gov. Mike Pence has signed a proclamation declaring March to be Opportunity in Indiana Month.

I am very honored the governor would approve this proclamation that I had created.

The goal of this is to recognize the pursuit of opportunity is a core Indiana value.

As part of my work as an AmeriCorps VISTA at United Way of Madison County, I'm working to advance the common good by creating opportunities for a better life for all.

Every day, my work focuses on education, income and health, the building blocks for a good quality of life for all.

I'm working to recruit people and organizations that bring the passion, expertise and resources needed to get things done.

This is why I created a partnership with Opportunity Nation.

Opportunity Nation is a national bipartisan initiative, working to build a national dialogue on opportunity as a core American value that desperately needs to be injected into the public conversation.

I invite all citizens to work to improve opportunity in your community.

You can volunteer, support your local community organizations, or determine what skill deficiencies you have and set a plan to gain needed skills and get involved in the political process.

Middleton, Ind.
