Letter to the Editor

Post Commander in agreement with resident

Sunday, April 7, 2013

To the Editor:

My name is Bob Bigley, and most people know me as the V.F.W. Post Commander at Post No. 1127, here in Brazil.

In Saturday's paper, there was an article about the few hours our Veterans Office is open to accommodate our Veterans' needs.

The statement was made by Mr. Brown that if the clerk's office hours were cut back, how much would get done.

We all know the answer to that one.

Well, on the same note, how many important jobs are handled by Veterans and how much money is donated by our Veterans to organizations right here in this community?

In my four years as the Post Commander, at our regularly scheduled meetings, have we ever turned anyone away?

Sometimes, those in need have never served have no one who has served and are just in need of our help.

We are there for them and these are your Veterans who are doing the good deeds.

The last meeting we conducted, more than $5,125 -- that's dollars -- we gave back to this community.

Last year alone, we gave bout $35,000-$40,000 back to this community.

No, you don't always see or here about this, but believe me, we do it.

Most of what we do goes to the food banks, Serving On The Streets, the YMCA of Clay County, and to our children who need so much of the help to some day lead this country.

Think about this Clay County Commissioners: Just tell me, if you can, how many of those Veterans who are going without are giving back to this community and who have in the past come forward to aid your needs and put on fundraisers on behalf of this county to get the smallest of items like a Veterans Van?

Name a Veteran, when asked, who hasn't been there and/or done that?

So commissioners, find a way to get it done.

Give Mike Holland more time to take care of us. Because we know how to get things done.

There is nothing a Veteran can't get done.

We make the time and find the solutions.

Robert (Bob) Bigley,

Post Commander, V.F.W. Post No. 1127,

Brazil
