Mary Ellen Burk, 79, passed away Monday Aug. 26, 2013, at Regional Hospital in Terre Haute.

She was born in Clay County, Indiana on November 5, 1933, to Clint and Audrie Porter.

Mary Ellen graduated from Van Buren High School in 1951, after being united in marriage with Fred H. Burk Jr.

She was a private caregiver for the elderly and handicapped adults. She ran the Forest Park Concession Stand with her husband. Mary was a member of the Brazil Church of Christ, and in her earlier years belonged to the home extension club, hosted many holiday parties, and enjoyed fishing, camping, mushroom hunting and working in her vegetable garden.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and sons, Timothy J. Burk, James D. Burk, Brothers, Clint A. Porter, Jr., Robert G. Porter, William R. Porter.

Survivors include one son, Dennis M. (Sue) Burk, Reelsville, Ind.; one daughter, Deborah (Achuta) Rao, Indianapolis; brothers, Jim (Helen) Porter, Plainfield, Harry (Ann) Porter, Greencastle, and David Porter, Indianapolis; sisters, Shirley (Don) Lawson, Brazil, Jean (Wayne) Cox, Plainfield, and Kathy Bass, Brazil; sister-in-law, Barbara (Jim) Ferry, Brazil; grandchildren, Susheela Rao, Jason Burk,Joshua Burk, Jeremy Burk, Shane Ake, and Tiffany Archer; great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Allegree, Chase Allegree, Estifanos Gebrekidan, Jr., Rao, Elizabeth Ake, Ambessa Rao, and Lisa Marie Archer; and several nieces, nephews and extended family.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m.,. Saturday, at the Moore Funeral Home in Brazil with Brother Jim Porter officiating and burial to follow at Calcutta Cemetery.
