Park Board issues thanks

Saturday, September 21, 2013

To the Editor:

The Brazil City Parks and Recreation Board would like to thank all individuals, businesses and organizations who helped in any way with the ninth Fishing Fun Day, which took place at Craig Park, Sept. 14.

The purpose of the Fishing Fun Day is to have families spend fun, quality time together while enjoying the beauty of nature and take pride in their home town.

More than 129 children and their families spent the morning together fishing and enjoying this special time with one another.

The weather was nearly perfect. Free hot dogs and Pepsi were available to everyone. Each child 12-under received a prize.

This was all free to the participants and most of the cost was covered by donations. Brazil is fortunate to have so many kind and giving people to help with this project. It was truly a community effort.

Thank you to the Brazil Police Department, Brazil Fire Department, the Clay County Sheriff's Department, The Brazil Times, Fifth Third Bank, Moore Funeral Home, Miller & Stewart CPA, NewWave Communications, Allender Trucking, Cloverleaf Health Care, Alabama Bar and Grill, Grey Properties, Jack's Bait and Tackle Shop and Jack and Dee Elder, Lucas Company and Dave Lucas, Kroger and Walmart.

Thanks also to Brian and Connie Wyndham, Karen McQueen, Hannah Asbury, Dana Okulovich, Teri and Blaine Akers, Frank Swearingen, Jack and Linda Egener, Vickie and John Switzer, the family and friends of Kitty Brooks, Marsha and Eric Wyndham, Susie and Jack Tucker, Sharon and Bob Mason, Margie Cauldwell, Bill Osborn, Bill Houck, Ed Holt, Jon and Mary Jane Girton, Emily Whittington, Mary Lee Steuerwald and Gracie Messmer.

A special thank you to L.T. Clark and his family, Kip Clark, Yates Clark, Robbyn Clark, Theres Anderson, Jason Brown, Danny Slack, Hunter Slack, Brian Baumgartner and Clark Becker.

They, importantly, shared their knowledge and expertise about fishing with the children.

More importantly, they shared their enthusiasm and love of nature.

And thank you to all the parents, grandparents and other family members who took the time to bring their children to the park to spend some fun, happy time with them fishing.

Ruthann Jeffries,

President,

Brazil City Parks and Recreation Board
