Nursing Home Week

Thursday, May 22, 2014

Exceptional Living Centers recently celebrated National Nursing Home week. It kicked off on May 11 with a Mother's Day Tea, followed by a celebration of the 1950's with a sock hop and Naomi Hill performing 50's tunes. Residents were swept off to the deep blue seas on May 13 when Pirate (Scott Culp of Care One Home Health) shared stories of his pirate days. On May 14, participants were taken back to the wild, wild west, where residents and staff were treated to a cook-out and entertained with karaoke and a clown. On May 15 was a celebration of the 70's, and May 16 was sports and staff appreciation day, where residents were entertained by employee sack races and a balloon launch. The week concluded with staff and residents voting for who they would most like to see get a pie in the face, and Executive Director Gayle Wiley-Camonte, Unit Manager Emily Batchelor, Missy McCullough (activities) and Jason Coons (CNA) found themselves in the seats of honor. Door prizes were awarded throughout the week to staff. Meanwhile, Cloverleaf Healthcare also celebrated National Nursing Home Week. Among the activities, residents took a cruise around the world, courtesy of Kathy Heeke, who designed a cruise ship and set up a scene each day for the destination. Saturday was the Mother's Day Luncheon held in Port Canaveral, Fla. On Monday, the residents traveled to Spain; Tuesday, Ireland; and Wednesday, China, which included facials and origami. On Thursday, residents docked in Hawaii. The residents, staff and their families were also treated to a hog roast. On Friday, residents docked in Canada. Pictured, above and below, are scenes from Exceptional Living Center's activities, including Stephen Shipp in the Love Bug and Dolores Burkhart as a pirate.
