Fire Update: State fire investigator visits site of Saturday blaze; fire's origin not confirmed as was previously reported
The Indiana State Fire Marshal's Office has visited the site of the fire that destroyed or damaged three Clay County businesses on Saturday.
Van Buren Township Fire Department Chief Tod Haring said he was on scene with the state investigator during the visit on Monday. He said there is no real timetable on the investigation, noting it could take "days to weeks."
"There is nothing that shows any foul play at this time," Haring said.
Furthermore, in The Brazil Times report on the fire on Monday it incorrectly stated the fire "originated" at Highway 40 Furniture Mart. It should have read the fire included the furniture store, as well as Shear One Beauty Salon and Pell's Roofing and Siding. The Times regrets the error and apologizes for any confusion.
"No one ever said it ever started in the furniture store," Haring confirmed.
The fire chief also said the Pell family wants the public to know that Pell's Roofing and Siding is still open for business.
