Richard Wayne Mercer, 83, of Indianapolis, passed away on Saturday, December 5, 2015. He was born on December 20, 1931 in Brazil, IN to Carl Wayne and Vallie Agnes (DeCamp) Mercer. Dick was a 1949 graduate of Brazil High School and honorably served his country in the U.S. Army from 1952-1954. He started as a coinbox collector in 1950 and retired as a Marketing Operations Manager with Indiana Bell, now AT&T, in 1991. Dick was a season ticket holder of the Indianapolis Colts since 1984. He had a passion for the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, attending the Indy 500 since 1946 and the Brickyard 400 since its inception. Dick volunteered with the Golden Gloves for over 50 years. He is survived by his children, Rhonda Mercer, Brad (Laurel) Mercer, Jim Lekse; and grandsons, Jordan Mercer Angle and Tyler Lekse. Dick was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jack Mercer; and beloved wife, Glenda Ellen (Crask) Lekse Mercer. A celebration of Dick's life will be held on Sunday, December 20, 2015 at 3pm in Flanner and Buchanan -- Speedway. Visitation will be 2 hours prior to the service, also at the funeral home. Memorial Contributions may be given to Clermont Christian Church, St. Francis Hospice or the American Cancer Society.
