To the editor:

'Tis the season of giving, so it was fitting that Brazil residents, Patty and Jim Dulin, were recognized for their giving spirit this past Monday at the Clay County Humane Society (CCHS). What they have accomplished since then is nothing short of amazing!

The couple began with an overhaul of the garage; cleaning it out, making repairs and improvements. A huge step forward, the garage is now usable for safe food storage with ample space to exercise dogs on the treadmills. From flowers, sign painting, fencing, gutter cleaning, tree trimming and post replacements, Patty & Jim were phenomenal at recruiting friends, volunteers and local contractors to assist them with their endeavors. Patty coordinated closely with UDWI REMC's Community Day program, maximizing the impact of their employee volunteers and monetary donation, which was a huge boost for the facilities interior renovation. Additionally, Patty and Jim have driven to Staunton and Indianapolis to pick up food donations, have assisted with various fundraising events and transported dogs for adoption and veterinary care. Patty bathes and grooms all the dogs before adoption events and when they are at the shelter volunteering, they walk dogs, do laundry, assist the public, answer the phone -- basically, they jump right in and do whatever to be helpful. If you haven't been to the shelter in a few months, stop by and you'll see the difference these two have helped create!

It's nice to have such a "dynamic duo" involved with CCHS again! Patty and Jim are a treasure, a rare find and the board and staff couldn't be more thankful for the sweat equity they have given for the animals at CCHS since July and years ago. We are truly fortunate to have such wonderfully motivated, selfless, caring and talented people in our own back yard!

Thank you, Patty and Jim Dulin!
